Brisbane Basketball would like to extend our sincere thanks to Trish Hayes for her many years of outstanding service on our Management Committee. Trish’s dedication and commitment to the association have made a lasting impact. We wish her the very best for what lies ahead and look forward to still seeing her around the stadium.
PATRICIA HAYES Service to Basketball 1970-2026 and still active.
Patricia Hayes started playing Basketball at Dalby in 1970-1973.
From 1973-1983 she refereed at Dalby as well as playing there. During the late 1970’s and early 1980’s she also played in the Toowoomba Basketball Association Competition.
In 1983 she moved to Brisbane where she played and refereed at QE Stadium for a short time and then to Brisbane Basketball where she played and refereed.
Trish organized and played in a team in the BBI Social competition in the 1980’s and 1990’s, playing on Tuesday night, as well as refereeing other games.
She also contributed to BBI’s Junior Representative Programme, acting as Team Manager for an Under 18 Boys Premier League Team, and an Under 18 Girls Premier League Team.
Trish joined the BBI Management Committee in about 2000 as Senior Fixture Secretary. She has served on the Committee continuously since that time, filling the positions of Treasurer and more recently Secretary. She has also been a member of numerous Sub Committees.
Trish has been involved in Score Table for over 30 years. She has attained Level 3 and is competent in all roles (Chair, Scorer, Assistant Scorer, Time Keeper and Shot Clock). During this period, she has been regularly involved in all levels including Junior and Senior fixtures, Junior Representative competition, GBL, SBL, QBL, State and National Championships, NBL (Brisbane Bullets) and National Wheelies (Brisbane Spinning Bullets).
Trish has also volunteered for the Commonwealth Games.
Trish is also an integral and extremely valuable member of Brisbane Basketball’s Referee’s Association (BBRA), where she has been Treasurer for over 20 years.
She has been a senior referee and a Night Supervisor helping with the development of our senior referee panels.
The BBRA has recognised Trish’s great contribution to their Programs. In 2007 she received their Clubman Award, which is their highest award for service to BBRA, and in 2010 she received their Night Supervisor award for service to the BBRA.
Trish has been at the forefront in helping BBRA with their finances through the years.
With the transition from a standalone Referees Association to a Sub Committee of Brisbane Basketball, Trish has maintained her standing as a valuable member by being awarded the position of Treasurer of the Brisbane Basketball Referees Sub Committee.
In 2014, Trish was selected as BBI Volunteer of the Year for her services to the association.
When BBI has conducted special events such as State and National Championships, and others, Trish has always been one of the first to volunteer.
Trish was awarded BBI Life Membership in 2018.
In 2024 Trish was awarded the Basketball Queensland Service Award – Diamond 50+.
Trish has recently resigned from her position on the Management Committee as Secretary but is still active as Treasurer of the BBRA and Score Bench Official.
