Dear BBI Community,
I’m pleased to share an update following BBI’s Annual General Meeting, held on 15 June 2026. The AGM is an important moment on our calendar because it gives members, through their Affiliated Clubs and Teams, a direct voice in the future direction of our Association by electing representatives to the Management Committee.
The level of participation was encouraging. We achieved a quorum, more than 350 of the 500 available votes were cast on the night, and executive positions were contested for the second year in a row. In total, 12 members of our community put their hands up for nine vacant Management Committee positions — a strong sign of the passion and commitment that exists across BBI.
Following the election, the Management Committee for the next 12 months is:

With the new Management Committee now in place, our focus turns to working together on the priorities that matter most to our community. We will be working to have photos of all committee members on display soon, and we warmly welcome your ideas, feedback and support as we continue to grow Brisbane Basketball Incorporated together.
Roof Repair
One practical outcome from the AGM is that Julian Russell has joined the Management Committee. Julian is a licensed builder with a wealth of experience, and he has completed an assessment of required works to help inform the next stage of this important project.
His expertise will help guide the work needed to ensure Vince Hickey Stadium continues to serve our basketball community well into the future.
Volunteer Register
Julian’s contribution is a great reminder that so many people in our community have skills, experience and talents that can make a real difference to BBI. With that in mind, we have established a volunteer register.
The register gives members and supporters a simple way to offer their skills, time or advice for small projects and practical tasks as we continue improving our Association and building on nearly 70 years of BBI history.
And don’t worry — we won’t ask you to get on the roof.

Queensland State League Success
Finally, I wanted to share Brisbane Basketball’s outstanding results in this season’s Queensland State League.
In testament to the strength of our program, all our QSL and QSL Youth teams featuring in the final’s series.
This couldn’t have happened without the work of our coaches, and Basketball Queensland agreed with three of our coaches awarded the Coach of the Year for their division:
It is so pleasing to see home-grown talent, both on and off the court, achieving this level of success. It reflects BBI’s commitment to providing a pathway for players, coaches and volunteers to excel at the highest levels of our sport, from juniors through to seniors.
